針對民進黨與「第三勢力」立委選戰協調出現瓶頸，黨內出現不滿前主席林義雄「混帳」說反彈，民進黨發言人王閔生21日轉述，黨主席蔡英文體諒在與第三勢力協調過程中，黨內同志難免有不同意見，但進步力量國會過半是台灣民主發展的關鍵，她盼同志放眼大局，個人意見留在內部溝通討論，對外發言應展現氣度，共同爭取團結進步力量的最大空間。

王閔生也說，蔡英文一直認為，讓進步力量在國會過半，應該優先於政黨本身的利害考量，民進黨對此有堅定的決心，若第三勢力有更具勝選實力的人選，民進黨願意予以支持，希望與其他進步力量充分合作，共同完成更重要的目標。

王閔生強調，民進黨在過去這段時間，持續以最大誠意與彈性，與理念相同的在野力量協調溝通，希望推出最具勝選實力的人選，翻轉艱困選區，以達成「進步力量在國會過半」的目標。事實上，與第三勢力的協調工作目前仍持續進行中，目前也已有相當的進展。
